POSITION SCOPE:(Provide any statistical information relevant to the position that may enhance the understanding of the job. Other data may include the value of assets entrusted to the position, operation budgets,sales volume, profit responsibility,and regular assignment of cross functional/cross business responsibilities.)<br><br>POSITION PURPOSE:(State the primary reason for the job, preferable in one or two sentences)<br><br>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:(Summary 7 to 10 of the most important duties. Begin each sentence with an action verb; e.g. completes, determines, stimulates, facilitates , etc. Each action statement should conclude with an end result)<br><br>- Stands in for the Product Engineering manager.<br>- Ensure design issues encountered during build are fully analyzed, tested and if necessary are re-designed and released through the Cummins system.<br>- Liase with all Cummins entities, joint ventures and licensees on any issues and work to a successful outcome. The position will focus on ensuring that all engineering requirements are met during the design and building of Cummins diesel engines.<br>- Make urgent decisions affecting engine build to ensure the integrity of the engine being built and shipped.<br>- Write engineering releases that adhere to product definition standards and guidelines.<br>- Make supplier, OEM and end user visits as appropriate to support design and validation activities.<br>- Work with manufacturing (design for manufacturer) and suppliers to achieve producible, good quality designs at the lowest cost possible.<br>- Participate or lead team activities such as cross functional design reviews, FMEA's, M-reviews, HAS Analysis, FMFA's, RPS projects, Six Sigma, joint studies/capabilities and functional excellent projects. Provide status and updates to management.<br><br>QUALIFICATION:( List the education/training, experiences , culture/language and other skills/ competencies required for the position.)<br><br>Education<br>Technology degrees( HND or equivalent ) would be considered for strong candidates.<br><br>Working experience<br>- Design and drafting experience including geometrical tolerance.<br>- Minimum of 5 years experience in diesel engine technology, testing/running and analysis.<br>- Minimum of 5 years experience of assembly/building diesel engines.<br>Cultural/Language<br>- English<br><br>Other requirement<br>Must be able to read and understand drawings and apply geometrical dimensioning and tolerance per ASME Y14.5M-1994 in discussions with DEP Quality, SQI, Materials and Suppliers.<br>Must be capable of carrying out bolted joint studies.<br>Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.<br>Must be flexible in taking on different responsibilities as the work changes.<br>Must be a team player and work effectively in cross functional groups/teams.<br>Must be self motivated and require minimal supervision.<br><br>Skill Matrices : List the skills neccesary to perform the job and required level for each skill .<br><br>Matrix I Generic skills : This category includes all the fundamental skills which apply to all organization levels .<br>Matrix II Technical/professional skills & knowledge : this category includes all the professional skills and knowledge the position requires .
